Limited Warranty Summary

Moisture Retardant Membrane for Flooring Products

WARRANTY COVERAGE

  1. Elk’s Limited Warranty covers manufacturing defects that affect the performance of the Elk VersaShield® Flooring Underlayment during the applicable warranty period stated below. Under normal conditions of use as underlayment for flooring products, Elk VersaShield Flooring Underlayment will perform to protect flooring products from moisture damage in areas that have MVER up to 12lbs per 1000 sq ft in 24 hours (based upon ASTM F1869 Calcium Chloride Test) to an acceptable level of less than 3lbs, when the sub floor is properly prepared and the installation instructions are followed correctly.

  2. Length of Elk’s Limited Warranty is 10 years.

  3. The Limited Warranty covers the original purchaser only. No transfer of warranty ownership is allowed.

  4. If a defect in the Elk VersaShield Flooring Underlayment is found after a proper evaluation (Elk reserves the right to have the floor independently inspected), Elk will pay for repair of the affected flooring area, or will pay a prorated amount towards replacement of the affected area. This amount will be a proration factor times the documented original cost of (i) affected flooring products, VersaShield Flooring Underlayment, seam tape, bonding adhesive, and any other affected installation materials if used in an ordinary installation, plus (ii) reasonable labor. The proration factor will be a fraction, with the numerator being the number of months remaining in the 10 year original term of the Limited Warranty at the time of the claim and the denominator being 120 months.

WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

  1. Moisture issues related to hydrostatic pressure, flooding, or spills of liquids on the surface of the floor, or other conditions that could result in moisture being above the underlayment material.
  2. Improper installation of underlayment, surface flooring, or subflooring, which will cause the underlayment Limited Warranty to be null and void. The underlayment must be installed properly in accordance with Elk’s installation instructions. Proper installation includes, but is not limited to, performing a moisture test (ASTM F1869 Calcium Chloride Test ) prior to installation to determine if excessive moisture exists in the sub-floor. Results of your ASTM 1869 moisture test must be recorded on the warranty registration card.
  3. Damage caused by natural disaster (i.e., acts of God, earthquakes,
hurricanes, flooding causing substantial shifting of the substrate).
  4. Damage caused by failure to allow the flooring system to cure properly, failure to allow completion of work, or other construction trades working within the area.
  5. Defects or failure of installation materials such as seam tape, patching material, grout, sub flooring or other products which affect performance of the flooring system.
  6. Punctures, tears or any damage to the underlayment from shipping, handling, or installation.
  7. Installations in areas where moisture readings have an MVER greater than 12lbs per 1000 sq ft in 24 hours (based upon ASTM F1869 Calcium Chloride Test).
  8. Incidental, consequential, special, or indirect damages resulting from product defects or from repair or replacement of any product deemed to be defective.
